Which spiritual lessons can be learned from the internet?
By Ru-an Zietsmann
It recently occured to me that there was an importnat spiritual lesson to be learned from the internet. The internet is like a reality within a reality. Just like the internet is not 'real', so is it with the world we inhabit. No one in their right mind would consider the internet as actual reality, right? It's a much more subjective experience. When you meet someone online it's different from meeting someone face to face. So you make up a picture in your head of what that person is like. It's all very impersonal and mostly imagined reality. Things are not what they appear to be. It's more like a bunch of data and information which you interpret the way it suits you. So what does this all have to do with spirituality? Modern quantum physics tell us that the world we inhabit is much more of an interpretation and much less absolute then we like to admit. It states that the observer and the observed is not seperate entities, they are in fact one at a deeper level. The visible universe essentially consist of energy, it is a vibration. If you had a very high powered microscope you can look at any physical object and you would see a mass of energy vibrating, waiting to be interpreted. Because you consist of energy yourself you can influence your environment through the way you interpret things and the way you think. If you were overweight and you wanted to be thin you could imagine yourself being thin. If you did this for a long enough time without thinking about your weight problem your reality would eventually correspond to your perception. The only reason why you couldn't become thin immediately is because you didn't believe it could happen immediately. If you practice it for long enough though and gain confidence in the process you can make things happen even faster. This is what I believe is the process behind maricles. Someone who can do a maricle believes without a shadow of a doubt in what they are 'seeing', not what appears to be in front of them, so it changes immediately. In the Bible Jesus says if we have the faith of a mustard seed we would be able to move mountains. This is because a mustard seed never doubts, it just grows. Just as the internet is virtual reality so is the world we inhabit, it appears very real to us because we interpret it that way. But it is not any more real then the internet is, it's all part of the one reality from which all things came. Knowing this we can play with this reality and create whatever we want, without getting so serious and caught up in all the drama. |
