What can be Learned from Dogs
By Ru-an Zietsmann
Ever since I can remember I always loved dogs. When I was just a small kid and feeling sad it felt like the dog was the only one in my family of seven who understood me. I would sit there all alone with the dog and felt like it felt compassion for me. We didn't say anything, we just sat there in quiet and somehow it understood me. Later in life we still has dogs and whenever I felt lonely the dogs would be there to keep me company. They were always glad to see me, and loved me even if I didn't treat them well. I always had a connection with dogs because I felt they could be trusted. People let me down and hurt me since the day I was born. Dogs on the other hand never once let me down and they always felt compassion for me. Dogs may be a lower evolved species then man, but man can learn a lot from them. Dogs live in the moment, they don't hold grudges and they are extremely loyal. Even if they get mistreated. If only man could show that kind of humility imagine what world we could be living in today. If only man could live in the state of innocence that animals lived in. But man gets conditioned in various ways and lives out predictable responses. There is nothing wrong with having emotion, but as humans we tend to hold onto old hurts instead of staying in the present and releasing the emotional charge. Therefor when the same situation comes up we keep reacting in the same way and these old hurts never gets released. To release it it's important to just stay in the moment and watch your own reaction while you are present with your body. If any physicl sensation comes up be present with it as well. When you catch yourself wanting to react in a pridictable way just pause for a moment and think about what you are doing. You will soon find that you can make a new choice and that you don't have to react negatively. In this way you will start acting, instead of reacting and you will get back to a state of innocence. |
