The relevance of Valentine's Day
By Ru-an Zietsmann
Two days ago on Valentine's Day I found myself kind of depressed and lonely about the fact that I have never been in a serious relationship. I was asking myself once again what the relevance of all these special days we have set up as a society. Does a day like this carry any significance for you if you are truly in love? Isn't every day like Valentine's day when you are in love? I feel like Valentine's day is hyped up by the media and it's just another way to make money while it makes many people feel lonely and left out. The best way to deal with it if you feel like this is to treat yourself to something nice, something that you wouldn't do usually. We all have a soulmate I believe and will find them in time, it's just a question of believing and focusing on good things. If you allow your thoughts to be the thoughts of a victim it will be harder to attract your soul mate. What is important is to be happy in your own presence and love yourself. It will be hard to be happy in a relationship if you can't be happy on your own. We tend to think that someone else can make us happy but that is never the case, not in the long run anyway. At some point one has to look at the reasons why we feel lonely and depressed and find the solution on the inside. Society might not be ideal but it's better to see Valentine's day as an opportunity for inner growth then viewing it s just another bad day. Find a way to love yourself on this day and you will never have to spend one feeling lonely again. |
