Home Made Energy

By Ru-an Zietsmann

Today we as a human species face some of our biggest challenges in history. Not only are we entering an economic recession but we have abused the environment for so long that the effects have started to show in the form of devastating natural disasters.

The recession is not official yet, since there hasnt been two consecutive quarters of negative growth in the GDP. But this doesnt mean it's not serious. Already Wall Street is in trouble and the goverment wants to bail them out at a cost of $700 billion. Imagine the effect of that on consumers. Already people are feeling the effects of the recession and this will only make things worse.

A phrase like 'worst recession since the great depression' has been uttered and even though we are far from that bad, we might get there if we don't start listening to the markets and what economists are telling us. The biggest problem in the economy is the growing gap between the rich and the poor and if we don't stop governing for the rich we might yet be in for a long night.

Global warming is just as bad a problem if not worse. The earth's atmospheric temperature is always increasing because of harmful gasses that is released by us into the air, which has caused a rise in the sea level from the melting of polar ice caps. This temperature increase has happened mostly in the last 100 years and if we dont do something about it it will increase even more in the next 100 years.

There is much we can do though about these things and one such thing is to make our own energy at home. The two ways to do that is through wind energy and solar energy. This will help you save money from your electricity bill and you will also be playing your part in protecting the environment, since the making of electricity by power plants requires the release of toxic gasses into the atmosphere.
