Enlightenment

What is enlightenment? Does it even exist? How does one become enlightened? I can't tell you exactly what enlightenment is because I am not there yet myself, but I have a pretty good idea from what I've read and heard, as well as experienced. We have all had peak experiences where we felt connected and at one with our environment. Enlightenment is basically just staying in that state. Some of us have experienced this state more often and more vividy then others. I'm sure there could be people who have never felt this. Whatever the case may be this state is open to everyone, not just limited to Jesus, Buddha or other enlightened masters. We can all achieve enlightenment. Enlightenment is the realization that there is no 'other' then the self. We tend to accept reality as the world that we see around us, we accpet time and space as real because it appears real. But what does science say about time and space? Eistein have proven with his theory of relativity that time is a relative phenomenan. There is no absolute tme. Physicists know that objcts that appear solid to us is 99.999% empty space. An object appears solid because atoms vibrate at a speed which is too fast for the eye to pick up. Atoms itself is 99.999% empty space. So when scientists try to find the building blocks of material reality they are stunned to find nothing. So if time and space is an illusion the what is real if anything? What is real is that field of all possibilities from which the universe was born. It is a state of nothingness, but this nothingness contains the potential for all things. To be enlightened is to be in this state. One does not identify with the ego or the personality anymore, which is ultimately an illusion. In this state just being is enough. Knowing oneself as the source is enough. How does one achieve enlightenment? Well enlightenment is not something one can achieve because at a certain level you are already enlightened. Seeing oneself as seperate from the source is an illusion that was created so that the relative could be experienced. So we are all inevitably returning to the source and therefor enlightenment. The process can be sped up though by first of all admitting that enlightment is real. Second of all one can achieve enlightenment faster by spiritual practice such as meditation, prayer, etc. But ultimately you(the ego) can not achieve enlightenment because the ego is what stands in the way of enlightenment. Spiritual practice will help you to disidentify with the ego and therefor bring on elightenment faster, which is the ultimate state one can reach. |
