A Dominant Force

Rafael Nadal has continued his domination of the tennis world by winning the latest big tournament in Indian Wells, California. It is one of the nine Masters Series events played throughout the year and falls just below the grand slam events in importance. In the final he easily disposed of Andy Murray 6-1, 6-2. Nadal has now won the two most important tournaments of the season so far after having won the Australian Open as well. Many people doubted whether he can win a grand slam event on hard court but he proved them wrong when he beat tennis legend Roger Federer in an epic five set match in the final. Last year he also overtook the number one ranking from Federer and has continued his dominance ever since. With his supreme fitness and mental strength his opponenets find him all but impossible to beat. Murray has beaten him in their two previous meetings before Indian Wells and therefor must be his main rival. Federer has been dealt a severe psychological blow when he lost to Nadal in the final of the Wimbledon last year as well as the Australian Open final. He has the game to beat Nadal but whether he can overcome his mental demons is another question. With the French Open and Wimbledon coming up he sure looks to be the player to beat. The French Open is almost a guarantee grand slam title for him and the only player who might stop him at Wimbledon is Federer, but even the great Federer will have a hard time from stopping this domination. |
